This is the book Ruud van Hemert (1938-2012) wrote about his life in the Dutch film industry. He would originally direct The Johnsons (the movie our documentary is about) but was fired by the producers during the making.

As a film director, he had two enormous successes in the eighties with 'Schatjes' and 'Mama is angry', but although he occasionally still made a film (eg 'I belong to you'), the lion's share of his projects did not come off the ground anymore . In these memoirs he looks back on his life, with the red line being unreliable producers, talentless actors, drying up subsidy sources, a suspicious production fund and a barren Dutch film climate. The fact that it is often difficult to work in the Netherlands as a filmmaker is already known from other sources, but is once again delineated. Unfortunately, Van Hemert uses a brillant style a la Jan Cremer and A. Moonen, so that the reader might as well have the belly full of him as of the Dutch film climate.
